What if we got a studio for a few days and produced as much music as we could?
In July 2020 a small group of musicians rented a cottage and got together for three days to create as much music as possible. On the third day each artist had one hour to direct a session. Each of us had the chance to produce a song using all the talent in the room however they wanted to.
This film, for the most part, follows the events of that day and watches as different artists produce in that environment.
It is composed of people writing and recording their songs, and interviews with a few of the producers on creativity, community and collaboration. It is my first documentary film.
Featured in the video are: Loup V, Taylor Price, Ashley Gilmore, Jacob Blanchard, Anthony Jordan, Joe Monk, Meghan Simao, Sam, Monika, and myself.
During my hour on day three I chose to record a four chord progression on the acoustic guitar that I had just come up with the day before. After the rhythm I laid down a lead also on acoustic. I then invited Anthony to play bass, Lu to play keys, Meghan to sing, and Jacob to play guitar. For another two session Lu and myself crafted it into its final form. We added ambience, percussion, and fine tuned the instruments.
For this song, No Fear, I composed a music video which features Meghan Simao as she improvises this lyric and melody. In only the two takes shown, she lays down this incredible performance. Check it out below.
